My fireplace was feeling uninspired and needed a bit of an over haul. Thought I would share some of the simple things I did to give it a new and lighter look!
There was just too much clutter and nothing felt cohesive to me.
Step One: Clear everything off and start with a clean slate.
Step Two: One by one add pieces and trinkets on that you really like, not to get all Marie Kondo on your ass… but the things in your space should “spark joy” or at least speak to you in some way or another. I like keeping old journals, a favourite book or two and some kind of art or print that I love.
Step Three: Layers, layers and HEIGHT!!! its always nice to layer objects to have them look as though they’ve just ended up there over time. It creates dimension and makes the eye look around to discover all of the fun things you’ve collected. Its also nice to create differences in height to keep things interesting.
Step Four: Green and reflective. This step might not be necessary, but i always love seeing a bit of green and this little cactus/succulent number in a pot I thrifted is giving me all the Anthropology vibes. Im also just obsessed with mirrors and have one almost every 2 feet in my apartment. Layering a mirror on the mantel or shelves is a great way to add depth and catches the light in just the right way!
Anyways…. here is the final result of my “re-jig” let me know what you think, and if you try any of these tips yourself :)
